The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is a programme designed with young people between the age of 14 and 25 in mind. Through it, young people are given the opportunity to grow and develop in terms of skill, knowledge, character, and personal contribution to society.

Participants are encouraged to work on areas and interests which are relevant in their lives and which appeal to them personally. It is for this reason that all tasks and activities are decided upon by the participants themselves with help and guidance from Award Leaders and later the Assessors.

Participants are guided through three sectors. These are; Skills, Physical Activities, Volunteering, and Expedition.

The participants choose the activities they wish to do and these are approved by the Award Leader. The participants then embark upon the activities under the supervision of assistants. There are three levels for the students to complete in total, and they are; Bronze, Silver and Gold.

Since offering this programme to students for the first time in 2017, JNY has been proud to see many young people take advantage of the benefits the programme has to offer. The school is a registered Award Centre and has a number of qualified staff operating as Award Leaders.

The International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) was introduced in 2016 after new research and feedback from member schools demonstrated that early years settings needed their own curriculum to meet the needs of children at such a crucial phase of development. The IEYC is now used in over 600 schools and early years settings in more than 60 countries. The IEYC aims to improve learning in schools by supporting teachers and leaders through the provision of contemporary, internationally researched curriculum materials, and engaging, developmentally appropriate units of learning. Through the IEYC, which supports teachers and leaders, children are encouraged to be informed, globally competent, socially conscious and motivated to positively contribute within a local and/or global context.

The formation of the South East Asia Strategic Educational Alliance (SEA2) is the brainchild of the Nanyang Girls’ High School (NYGH), targeting ten established schools in South East Asia (Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, The Philippines, Thailand and Brunei). JNY is very honoured to be invited as one of the founding members of the alliance.

Given the culturally diverse nature of the region, an alliance aims to bring schools from different South East Asian countries together to enrich cross-cultural learning of the students, bringing the youths to learn and work collaboratively.
